Ways I have brought shame upon my family in Japan – Week 1

  1. Having the grocery store checker bag my groceries even though as Hilary told me specifically but I forgot that in that store everyone just reloads their basket and then carries it over to another separate table to bag it themselves, and then neither my credit card nor ATM card worked, and I did not have the cash to pay for it so I left it all in the bag and tried the 2 ATMs in that store but neither worked so I went down the block to the 7-11 ATM, which worked but by the time I got back they had unloaded my whole grocery bag back into the basket, and so now that I could pay for it the same checker checked everything through, and then, in order to not embarrass me further, she bagged it for me again.
  2. Ski clothes covered in food/grease stains (Note: also true at home).
  3. Fly constantly unzipped (Note: also true at home).
  4. Jamming arm in closing subway doors, then pulling them open, delaying train and receiving stern safety lecture in Japanese over train-wide loudspeaker, to which I, unlike my silent and mortified children and every other passenger, was oblivious.

  1. Hi Ben and Jules. I will not say which blog I prefer, but what I do like is the realtionship between the two of you.
Dad stuff versus Jules stuff. Looks like you are all having a great time. Love the photos.
